GoCaddy Privacy Policy

The short version. GoCaddy has no accounts and no adverts. It does
not track you, does not build a profile of you, and does not sell or share
anything with anyone. Your location is used to work out where you are on a golf
course and how to get somewhere — and, apart from anonymous course lookups, it
stays on your phone.
Location
GoCaddy asks for your location because it cannot do its job without it: measuring
the distance to the green, working out which hole you are on, and navigating you
along cart paths and estate roads.
- Where it is used. Distances, hole detection and route
following all happen on your phone. The maths runs locally.
- Why “Always”. A round takes about four hours and your phone
spends most of it in a pocket with the screen off. Without background access,
tracking stops the moment you lock the phone and the dashboard tile goes stale.
You can decline it — the app still works while it is open.
- What leaves the phone. When you ask for a route, the start
and end coordinates are sent to our server to be routed, and on to
Valhalla, a public
OpenStreetMap routing service. These requests carry no name, no account and no
device identifier, and the result is cached so the same route is not requested
twice.
- What is never sent. A continuous trace of your movements.
GoCaddy does not upload where you have been.
Fleet mode
A golf club running GoCaddy on its own buggies can enable fleet mode, where a
buggy reports its position to that club’s pro shop so staff can see the course.
This is off unless a club turns it on, it is scoped to that club, and it reports
a buggy number — not a person.
What is stored on your phone
- The course you are playing and your settings (units, tee, voice).
- Recent destinations, so they are one tap away.
- Cached course and map data, so a round works with poor signal.
Deleting the app deletes all of it.
The dashboard widget
The home screen and CarPlay widget reads a snapshot the app writes into a shared
container on your device — the current hole, the distance, and your position. It
never leaves the phone, and the widget takes no location readings of its own.
Analytics and advertising
There are none. No analytics SDK, no advertising SDK, no third-party trackers, no
crash reporter that collects personal data.
Where the map data comes from
Course layouts, cart paths and roads come from
OpenStreetMap, contributed
by volunteers and used under the Open Database Licence. Map imagery is supplied by
CARTO and Esri. Weather comes from Open-Meteo.
Children
GoCaddy is not directed at children and collects nothing that would identify one.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects what happens to your data, the date at
the top changes and the new version appears here before the change ships.
